Val Birchall (keynote)

Val Birchall has a reputation as an innovator in cultural policy with twenty years’ experience of leading cultural teams in the cities of Birmingham, Brighton and Coventry and in the rural county of Herefordshire. She is the Chair of the National Alliance for Cultural Services in the UK, which brings together the principal local government networks to lead the sector and influence national policy. Val is a passionate advocate of the need for new models of leadership in the sector, which transcend sector boundaries in order to facilitate solutions to complex issues in society. She is currently an associate of the University of Warwick Centre for Culture and Media Policy Studies and a fellow of the Local Policy Innovation Partnership at the University of Birmingham.
